STTP on "Application of Geospatial Technologies in Building Sustainable Smart Cities" 23rd to 27th August 2021

The inauguration function of the ISTE approved Short-term Training Programme on "Application of Geospatial Technologies in Building Sustainable Smart Cities", conducted by the Department of Civil Engineering, PSG Institute of Technology and Applied Research, Neelambur, Coimbatore, was held on 23.08.2021 at 10.00 am in the E5 Civil seminar hall. The inauguration function started with the invocation, followed by welcome address by Dr.M.I.Abdul Aleem, Professor and HoD of Civil Engineering at PSG iTech. He thanked the ISTE for approving the STTP programme to be conducted from 23.08.2021 to 27.08.2021. The presidential address, delivered by Dr.P.V.Mohanram, Secretary, PSG iTech, stressed upon the need to implement the Intelligent Traffic Management Sysytem for finding alternative routes, IoT and cloud based automation, application of drones for surveillance, as a part of the Smart City development. He also highlighted the use of geospatial technologies for the monitoring of common amenities in smart cities such as 24x7 water supply, effective garbage disposal systems, underground drainage systems, digital documentation of land and public records. Mr.V.Navin Ganesh, Assistant Professor (Sr. Gr.), Department of Civil Engineering, PSG iTech, briefed about the objectives of the STTP. The chief guest of the function, Dr.K.Elangovan, Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore, delivered the inaugural address. He explained the salient features of the Smart Cities mission launched by the Government of India and also the objectives of the mission which include applying smart solutions to infrastructure and services in area based development in order to make the cities a better place for living. He stressed upon the need to makes things easy for the people of a city through smart technologies, as people are the core of a city, and cities that work for their people will continuously become better versions of themselves with each passing day. Mr.R.Rajkumar, Assistant Professor (Sr. Gr.), Department of Civil Engineering, PSG iTech, delivered the vote of thanks. 75 participants from renowned institutions across different parts of India and 2 International participants are attending the STTP.
