Two Days Hands-On Training in LabVIEW on 18th and 19th August, 2017

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering in association PSG Centre for Non-formal and Continuing Education conducted a two day Hands-on training session on "LabVIEW" on 18th and 19th August, 2017 for the second year students of ECE. A total of 23 students participated in the workshop. The sessions were delivered by Ms. M Deepa, Assistant Professor, Department of ECE, PSG Institute of Technology and Applied Research.

The main objective of this workshop was to introduce graphical programming to the students but it also provided a platform to explore the use of Virtual Instrumentation and Design using LabVIEW.

The workshop started by highlighting the difference between various programming languages and the need for an integrated programming environment like LabVIEW and its allied hardware modules. The workshop was organized into 8 sessions each covering one or many of the topics mentioned below:
• Basic building blocks of LabVIEW
• Mathematical operations
• Digital Logic using Boolean gates
• For Loops with various examples
• Shift Registers and its applications
• Design of Arrays with examples
• Conditional While Loops
• Using timing components inside loops
• Graphical display using Charts and Graphs
• Practical examples using Case Structures.
• Implementation of higher end computation using Formula Nodes and Math script Nodes
• Hierarchical designing using Sub-VI
• LED Interfacing using USB DAQ

At the end of the workshop, the students were confident that they could build a virtual instrument that can work according to the specifications and they were motivated to do mini projects using LabVIEW software.
