The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, PSG Institute of Technology and Applied Research along with ICT Academy organized a five day FDP on "Oracle Programming using PL/SQL" from 15th May 2017 to 19th May 2017. There were 39 participants from various colleges which included 5 participants from PSGiTech, and 5 participants from colleges outside Tamil Nadu and were trained by Mr. Ritesh Jain, Project Manager, Ebiz Suite Practices, Oracle India Development Centre, New Delhi.
The inauguration function of the FDP was held on 15th May, 2017 in the E4 CSE Seminar Hall. The programme began with the prayer by Mr. Harikrishnan followed by welcome speech the Principal Dr. P.V.Mohanram. The next was the inaugural address by Dr. Hamsapriya, HoD, Department of CSE. The Vice-Principal Dr. G.Chandramohan and Mr. Balamurali from ICT Academy also addressed the gathering. Chief guest and resource person was Mr. Ritesh Jain. The inauguration programme ended with vote of thanks by Ms. P.R.Radhika.
The five day session started off on May 15th 2017 with the basics of PL/SQL programming. Each session was very informative and detailed and each small concept was very well explained and demonstrated using example programs. After each section, there were online quizzes (multiple choice) which reinforced the concepts that were learned. There were two midterm examinations undertaken by the trainees. Two final examinations were held on the last day of the FDP.

Day 1 - 15th May, 2017:
• Introduction to PL/SQL programming
• Usage of APEX account and Oracle Application Express.
Day 2 - 16th May, 2017:
• Usage of conditional statements and loops
• Study of cursors - implicit and explicit
• Mid-term examination 1
Day 3 - 17th May, 2017:
• Types of exceptions, study of procedures and functions.
Day 4 - 18th May, 2017:
• Introduction to Transactions, Packages
• Mid-term examination 2
Day 5 - 19th May, 2017:
• Triggers in PL/SQL
• Final examination 1
• Final examination 2
On May 19, 2017 the afternoon session concluded with validictory function at E4 CSE Seminar Hall. The function started off with a prayer by Mr. Harikrishnan followed by welcome address by Dr. T Hamsapriya. Mr. Sundararaman, State Head of ICT Academy,Tamil Nadu, Mr. Balamurali, Mr. Vishnu Sanjay, ICT Academy, Mr. Ritesh Jain and Dr.T. Hamsapriya were present at the function and addressed the gathering.
Feedback by other college faculty members
A few faculty members came forward to share their feedback. They felt that that the sessions had indeed been of great benefit for them as it gave them the working knowledge on PL/SQL Programming and would be very much helpful in their teaching as well as in their research programmes. The sessions were so informative and interesting that most of the participants chose to stay back in the labs for doing the practice exercises in the evenings. The quizzes after each session also added to the enthusiasm of the participants. They expressed their desire to participate in such programmes organized by the college in the future.
