The workshop on "Soil Investigation and Construction of Micro Piles" 23rd July, 2016 was inaugurated by Dr. P.D. Arumairaj, Professor and Head, Department of Civil & Mechanical Sciences, Karunya University on 23/7/2016 at 9.00 am. Dr. R. Ramesh, Professor and Head of Civil Engineering Department, PSG iTech welcomed the gathering. During the inaugural address, Dr. P.D. Arumairaj explained the importance of Site Investigation for any construction and the role of Civil Engineers in the Society for executing the same. He has narrated some of the incidents he has effectively handled during his technical venture, which was well received by the students.
The practical training on "Bore Hole Investigation & Trial Pit Investigation" was carried out by Mr. S. Elayaraja, Assistant Professor(Sr.Gr.) in Civil Engineering, PSG iTech. Two bore holes were driven & samples were collected at various depths and identifying the soil samples & recording the field data were also explained. Standard Penetration Test was also carried out inside the bore hole as well as in the Trial Pit. The correlations of field data into design data were also discussed.
The construction of Micro Piling was explained by Dr. M.I.Abdul Aleem, Professor in Civil Engineering, PSG iTech. Preparation of Steel Tubes as Micropiles and the construction sequence were also demonstrated in front of the students. Real Micropiles were erected in the rear side of the Civil Engineering block. The usage of Micropiles in the construction industry is also informed to the students. About 65 students from the Third Year B.E. Civil Engineering have attended the workshop and it was well appreciated by the students.
