One-day ISEA workshop on "IoT-Edge Ecosystem A Security Perspective" held on 18th October 2021

PSG Institute of Technology, Department of Computer Science and Engineering in association with IIT (Guwahati) organized a one-day ISEA workshop on IoT-Edge Ecosystem A Security Perspective on 18.10.2021 (Monday). Dr R Manimegalai, Professor and Head, Dept. of CSE, welcomed the gathering.
Dr G Chandramohan, Principal, delivered the presidential address and appreciated the Dept of CSE for organizing such need based workshops for the student and faculty members. Speaking on the occasion, he spoke about the importance of imparting knowledge on cyber security and appealed to the students to go beyond the classroom learning and explore the latest trends and knowledge. He stated that cyber security is one of the latest topics in the IT field. Next, he appreciated the efforts taken by the dept. in collaborating with IIT (Guwahati) in hosting such workshops for the larger benefit of the students from several colleges of the city.
Dr P V Mohanram, Secretary, offered his felicitations and informed that self-reliance through knowledge, training, and awareness is the need of the hour. In addition, he appreciated the resource persons for educating the members of faculty about the latest methodologies of teaching computer science and requested them to set up a lab with a vision to provide students an opportunity to develop new applications for addressing the problems faced in the industries and societies.
During the workshop, Prof Sukumar Nandi, Senior Professor, IIT Guwahati, thanked the college for taking steps to host such productive programmes for the student's community. He spoke about the need for developing new insights and spreading awareness about information security. Also, he shed light upon the projects and PhD dissertations that focussed on the information security and need for future generations in spreading knowledge and awareness about the data security among the members of society including kids and old age people. Later Dr John Jose, Assistant Professor, IIT Guwahati lauded the efforts taken by scientists and health care professionals in vaccinating such a great population and helping people to overcome Covid19. While briefing about the workshop, he highlighted the opportunities waiting for the students and institutions in the field of information security and challenges in protecting confidential data.

Shri Sanjay Kumar Vyas, Scientist F ,Director, HRD, MeitY, Govt. of India, delivered the inaugural address and emphasised on creating awareness about cyber security among the people of India. In addition, he called for a collaborative learning approach for sorting out the challenges faced by the country and ways to address them via proper training, education and awareness. Further, stated that the Govt. is keen in organizing boot camps, hackathons, and various competitions for students in developing fresh insights on cyber security. Finally, Dr I Kala, Associate Professor, Dept of CSE, proposed the vote of thanks.
Dr. S V Srikanth, Joint Director, C-DAC, Hyderabad took over the session and threw light on various key requirements of an IoT application and the reasons for security vulnerabilities that are happening around the world with felicitous examples of such liabilities in IoT applications. He concluded by quoting many applications of IoT such as mimo, google nest etc...
Dr.Ruchika Gupta, Post-Doctoral Fellow,IIT Guwahati started with a short and crisp glimpse on paradigm from unicore to multicore. Then she enunciated the routing algorithm, a procedure to lay down routes to transfer data packets from source to destination.
Finally, a live interactive session with student is conducted by Dr. Sukumar Nandi and Dr. John Jose. Students from various colleges across Tamil Nadu raised several questions related to Internships and Project Positions in IITs. Prof. Nandi gave lot of inputs on preparing for GATE Exam. Queries related to IoT, Edge Computing, Cloud Computing and Security were clarified by Dr. Nandi and Dr. John Jose. More than 200 Students and Faculty members from various colleges of Tamil Nadu are benefitted by this Workshop
