HANDS ON TRAINING ON BRICK MASONRY 13/8/2016

The Hands on Training on "Brick Masonry was inaugurated by Er. S. Rajendran, Cost Effective Consulting Civil Engineer, Tanjore, on 13/8/2016 at 10.30 am. Dr. M.I.Abdul Aleem, Professor in Civil Engineering, PSG iTech welcomed the gathering. During the inaugural address Er. S. Rajendran has explained the importance of Bricks for any construction and how the brick was utilized by our ancestors in constructing historical important structures. He has narrated some of the cost effective construction methods using bricks, he has effectively handled during his technical venture, which was well received by the students.
The Two days Hand on training during 13/8/2016 &14/8/2016 was also carried out by Er. S. Rajendran. Dr.M.I.Abdul Aleem, Professor in Civil Engineering and Dr. S. Yuvaraj, Assistant Professor in Civil Engineering were also involved in training the students. The students were divided into small groups and the following exercises were carried out.

  • Flemish Bond
  • English Bond
  • Rat trap Bond
  • Twisted Column
  • Semi Circular Arch
  • Flat Arch
  • Dome
  • Filler Slab using E waste
  • Filler Slab using Pearl-Pet Bottles
  • Filler Slab using bricks
The students were encouraged to prepare cement mortar by themselves and allowed to construct the above mentioned structures by their own individual groups. The students had a chance to touch, hold and keep the bricks on their hands which gave lot of pleasure to them. The arches were immediately loaded by allowing the students to stand over the arch and the load carrying capacity of the arch was physically proven to the students, which was admired by many students. About 55 students from the Second Year B.E. Civil Engineering have attended the workshop and it was well appreciated by the students.
