"Industrial Visit" to Ashok Leyland Plant II ,Hosur by III Year Mechanical Engineering department students on 31.07.2016
We the batch of 51 students started with the learning centre. They explained about their history of the company and the facilities in the Hosur plant. Ashok leyland got the ISO: 9001 certification on 1994 and in 2002 they got the ISO: 14000 certificationfor environment management system. Ashok leyland supplies the 80% of the vehicle to the Indian army.

During the industrial visit, we have learnt about the axel assembly, frame assembly, chassis assembly, road testing and also explain about the engines. The visit was very much interesting and useful to academics.


AXEL ASSEMBLY:
Axels are an integral part of most practical wheeled vehicles. In a live suspension system the axels serve to transmit during torque to the wheel as well as to maintain the position of wheels relative to each other. Rear axle consists of differential unit which is powered by the propeller shaft. spindle assembly, brake shoe assembly and axle beam loading were also explained.

CHASSIS ASSEMBLY:
Chassis assembly consists of following lines such as
  1. LCV (light commercial vehicle) - payload up to 4 tonne
  2. ICV (intermediate commercial vehicle) - payload up to 12 tonnes
  3. MDV (medium duty vehicle) - payload up to 35 tonnes
  4. HDV (heavy duty vehicle) - yload up to 49 tonnes
FRAME ASSEMBLY:
A vehicle frame is the main supporting structure of a vehicle to which all the components are attached. It also deals with all the static and dynamic loads of the vehicle without under any deflection and distortion. These include self-weight of the body, passengers, cargo loads, vibrations and twisting moments of mechanical components, ups and downs of roads. There are three lines in the frame assembly. The process are laying down the frame and assemble the axle fitting ,air piping, engine mounting, propeller shaft fitting, fuel tank mounting ,radiator fitting ,cab mounting, tire and bumper fitting

ROAD TEST:
Road test involves the testing of the vehicles after the assembly. The test includes
  1. Speed test
  2. Brake force test
  3. Emission test
  4. Wheel balancing test
  5. Shower test
We have been guided by the officials of the Ashok Leyland to visit the company and they responded very nicely. They provided much more information about the vehicle such as LCV DOS, BOSS.
