A one day "Industrial Visit" was arranged to TVS Motor Company, Hosur for I Year Mechanical Engineering department students on 05.03.2016. Total of 51 students and 2 teaching and one non-teaching faculty accompanied the students. The visit inside the Company was guided by Mr. Mukesh Krishna (HR) of TVS Motor Company, Hosur. The following are learning outcomes.
TVS Motor Company Hosur, a one among leading manufacturers of automobiles (vehicles) which has four manufacturing unit in its campus. The visit was made to the unit I - Two wheeler production units where scooters and mopeds are being manufactured. The manufacturing section involves various sub sections viz., manufacturing of engine components, engine assembly, engine testing, vehicle assembly, vehicle testing & painting sections etc.,
In all these sections, the work load by humans is reduced and almost automated. After engine manufacturing is complete, it is being checked for any defects by at least four inspection departments. All instructions to each and every section for workers are given by standard operating procedure (SOP) which is meant by TMOS. Then after engine manufacturing, assembling of engine take place. From there, engine testing is done by means of various sensors. After the finalization of above processes engine are taken to the place where assembling of vehicle parts is done by means of nut runners, conveyors etc., Similarly while in section of testing, parameters such as Noise, Vibration, Performance and Harshness is being taken into account. Testing is done in four sections namely T1, T2,T3 & T4 for fuel efficiency, mileage, basic amenities etc., Final Vehicle Product Audit is performed in T4 sub section.
Next comes the painting section, this involves passivation as an initial step. The individual parts or components are being painted by the method of Electrolysis painting which involves anode and cathode in presence of electric field. Finally, after the assembling of all vehicle parts and when the vehicle is ready after all necessary test, it is being transported to authorized dealers from where the vehicles are distributed to the consumers. Once the Company visit is over, Mr. Mukesh Krishna of TVS clarified the doubts of our students.
