Industrial Visit to Kaynes Technology on 3rd August 2019

An Industrial visit was organized for the students of II-year Electronics and Communication Engineering from 2nd to 3rd August 2019. 60 students along with 2 faculty members, Dr. S Vanitha (Associate professor) and Mr. M Jothibasu (Assistant professor (Senior Grade)) of Electronics and Communication Engineering department visited the company Kaynes Technology India Private Ltd, Mysore.

"KAYNES TECHNOLOGY" is one of those few industries in India which manufactures PCB's and assemble electronic products in PCB. Kaynes Technology has a total of 9 units, 2 in Mysore. Students visited the assembly units that gave them insights PCB assembly process and stages including SMD - Surface Mounted Device and FCI - Final Component Inspection. Stdetns observed that, the technicians inside SMD lab were wearing protective gears for safety. They used two kinds of paste to establish the electrical connections in the PCB namely Roger and Non-Roger. A process called "Pick And Place" is used to pick small-sized components using small automated needles and placing them on the PCB where the holes are pre-laid with electrical connectivity. After placing the components, the soldering process at the bottom of the PCB is carried automatically using a reflow heater, so that the components are fixed to the board. Then the PCB is sent to the AOI (Automatic Optical Inspection) sector where it checks whether the components are fixed properly through light. This AOI inspects with the leniency of 50%. PCB's from the SMD laboratory are sent to the FCI for inspection.

Later PCB were sent for In-Circuit Testing, Functional Checking, and sprayed with UV Spray to protect from dust and foreign particles.
Studetns also visited the storage area, where they store both the raw material and processed PCB.
The visit was arranged with the combined effort of Ms. S. A. Aswathy, Ms. S. Kavya, Mr. P. Pradumnya Dash and Mr. V. Sanjay Kumar (student coordinators) under the guidance of Dr.T.Hamsapriya (Professor & HOD ECE), Dr. S. Vanitha (Associate Professor), Mr.M.Jothibasu (Assistant professor (Senior Grade)) and Mr. K. Paldurai (Assistant professor (Senior Grade)) of ECE department.
