Guest lecture on "Recent Trends in RF" on 23rd July, 2016

The Electronics and Communication Engineers Association organised a guest lecture on the 23rd July, 2016. Mr K R S Ravikumar, CEO, RF Wave Zera Technologies, Bangalore delivered a lecture on the topic 'Recent Trends in RF'.

The lecture started with the introduction on the RF and microwave frequency bands and their advantages. The significance of the frequency bands was explained with practical applications like Bluetooth, GPS, and FM of a mobile phone. Other applications like Wireless Communication, RADAR, Meteorology, RFID, Broadcasting were discussed. A brief introduction on transmission line theory was given. The concepts of distributed components, standing wave and standing wave ratio, attenuation, impedance matching were taught. The scattering parameters(s parameters) of a two port network and its significance were discussed. The advantages of coaxial cable over normal cable were briefed. Conversion of lumped model to distributed model, frequency spectrum analyser filters, Electromagnetic band gap and resonators were also taught. The lecture concluded with discussion on the scope of communication engineers in terms of job opportunities. The guest lecture was very informative and laid a good foundation to transmission lines and RF waves.
