Report of the iTech Hackfest 2022 - National Level Hackathon - 25 to 27 August 2022

iTech Hackfest 2022 - National level Hackathon is conducted at PSG Institute of Technology and Applied Research for three days during 25.08.2022 - 27.08.2022. This hackathon is organized by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering in association with SAP and Kaar Technologies. SAP Academy of Engineering sponsors the prize money of two lakhs, first prize - Rs.100000, second prize - Rs.75000 and third prize- Rs.25000 and Kaar Technologies has sponsored the event. Mr. Ferose V.R., Senior Vice President and Head of SAP Academy for Engineering inaugurated the iTech Hackfest 2022 and delivered the inaugural address. Mr. Ferose explained the importance of perseverance and passion for a successful career and emphasized the advantage of having long-term view. He discussed about sustainability and long term thinking.

Students pursuing B.E/B.Tech can participate as teams in this coding challenge. Around 125 teams, each consisting of three to five members, have registered for iTech Hackfest 2022 and more than 600 students will be actively coding during these three days. In this 3-day Hackathon, the teams are given three themes to choose from: "One Nation Digital Commerce", Sustainability and Diversity and Inclusion. The inaugural session is followed by the coding challenge and it continues the second day. Experts from SAP, Kaar and PSG Institutions will evaluate the 125+ teams and ten teams will be selected for demonstration and presentation. The top ten teams will be critically evaluated based on the following criteria: a) Code and Design, b) Innovation and Desirability, c) Usability, d) Demo and Presentation. After the final evaluation, the top three winners will be declared on August 27, 2022.

The team securing the First place will receive a cash price of Rs.100000. The teams securing second and third place will bag Rs.75000 and Rs.50000 respectively. Mr. Rahul Sachdev, Director - SAP University Alliance (India Subcontinent) has indicated that the teams securing top five positions will gain an opportunity to be part of the SAP Startup Studio program. Mr. Maran, CEO and Founder, Kaar Technologies has indicated that the top performers in the coding-challenge will be given job-opportunities at Kaar Technologies, Chennai.

The Convener of iTech Hackfest 2022, Dr. R. Manimegalai, Head-CSE, welcomed the gathering. Dr. G Chandramohan, Principal, PSGiTech, delivered the Presidential Address. Principal briefed about the importance of team work and design thinking to solve the problem in a better way and develop optimal solution.

Dr P V Mohanram, Secretary, PSGiTech appreciated the Department of CSE and the coordinators Lt. V. Vilasini, Mr. N. Aravindhraj, including student volunteers for their relentless efforts in successfully hosting the Hackathon at PSGiTech. Mr. Avinash Singh, Senior Engineer at Ktern.AI talked about "Principles of Sustainable Software Engineering". Mr. Jayanth Bagare, Chief Development Architect at SAP Academy for Engineering interacted with the participants and cleared several queries and clarifications raised by the students regarding the coding challenge.

The valedictory function of iTech Hackfest was conducted on 27.08.2022 at 3 pm and the winners are announced. Chandrakanth . A, Nithiish .V.K, Krishna Kireeti . T, Harinath.B, Arul Sathya . R, of Rajalakshmi Engineering College bagged first prize as cash award of Rs. 1 Lakh. Bennett Joseph D, Venkat P R, Srirangan K, Siddeshwar V A, Vishnuvasan T S of Sri Venkateswara College Of Engineering won the second prize of Rs. 75,000 and Rohith ND, Sudiptha A, Aparna J, Mukesh K, Vignesh Kumar of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham got the third prize of Rs. 25,000. Lt. V. Vilasini, AP(Sr.G)/CSE and Mr. N. Aravindhraj, AP/CSE, Coordinators of the iTech Hackfest 2022 closed the event with the formal vote of thanks.
