The department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, in association with ISTE students' chapter conducted an online guest lecture on "What is Learning" on 13th August, 2021 (1:30 - 3:00 pm) as a motivational talk to the second and third year students of ECE before the start of the upcoming semester. Around 63 students took part in the guest lecture and got benefited from the same.
Prof Muruganantham exclaimed that the "Capacity to learn is a gift" which is inherited from our forefathers. He quoted several examples from Tamil literature which approved the above fact. He also quoted that "Ability to learn is a skill" which is acquired from the surroundings and society we grow up in. But "Willingness to learn is a choice" made by the individual and only the individual. Even though there is ability and capacity, if there is no willingness made by the person, the former do not have any impact on our learning or growth curve. He also threw light on the concept of chunking in order to shrink the content and store it in the limited available memory. He also illustrated examples in favour of the concept of transfer, how the principles in physics were transferred to a new domain of veterinary gynaecology. He concluded the talk highlighting the terms in Bloom's taxonomy and move higher in the Bloom's level in order to excel in the curriculum as well come out with flying colours.
