One week FDP on "Electromagnetics and its Applications" from 19th to 24th November 2018

The Electronics and Communication Engineering Department has organized a one week FDP on "Electromagnetics and its Applications" from 19th to 24th November 2018. 12 Faculty from different engineering colleges participated in the FDP. The FDP covered the fundamentals of electromagnetics with emphasis on its physical understanding and its applications. The sessions were handled by 4 subject experts from other institutions and 5 internal faculty members.

Mr. Sabarish Narayanan. B, Asst. Prof., Electronics and Communication, Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore, gave an insight on static magnetic field and harmful effects of microwave radiation. He presented a conceptual understanding of the magnetic fields.Prof. Smiles Mascarenhas, Dean, Coimbatore Institute of Engineering and Technology, Coimbatore, gave a lecture on understanding Stokes and Divergence theorem. He gave the insightsbehind arriving at the equations of Stokes and Divergence theorems.

Dr. Thiyagarajan. K, Asst. Prof. (Sr.Grade), Dept. of ECE, PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore, explained the Maxwell's Equations and time varying Electromagnetic fields. He also shared the historical perspective behind the research that happened in the field of Electromagnetics.Dr. D. Jayapaul, Managing Director, I&C, Coimbatore, delivered a lecture on EMI/EMC. He also shared the challenges pertaining to EMI/EMC while designing electronic products.

A local visit to EMI/EMC lab PSG-STEP, PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore, was also organized as a part of FDP. This visit gave an exposure to different EMI/EMC testing techniques.Overall, all the sessions were very informative. We believe, that the knowledge the experts shared will help immensely while we teach the concepts to students.
